Fiscal Printing – Adapting to Regional Printing Requirements with BIXOLON

    June 27, 2023

It is estimated between 750 and 900 billion euros is lost through tax evasion every year throughout EU countries. Globally governments are constantly tackling issues to do with tax evasion. Many countries have now brought in fiscal laws to prevent retailer fraud. It ensures that mandatory VAT transactions are reported through receipts and paid correctly paid to the authorities. Although fiscal laws and how they run differ with each country, these laws cover how the electronic cash register should work, how data should be saved and reported, plus how and when it should be done. What Printing Options Are Available Today?Fiscal Printers and other Memory DevicesA Fiscal printer is a receipt printer which include a fiscal memory module. The module records every transaction for easy reporting of tax owed to a country while printing a carbon copy for the customer. Other fiscal memory devices also exist including fiscal cash registers and electronic signature devices. Alternatively, an external fiscal mechanism could also be used which connects a regular receipt printer within a POS terminal. It supports the printing of documents and the auto backup of tax records. With many options on the market, all pieces of equipment must be certified by the local governments and connect to POS terminals to provide accurate reporting. Fiscal SoftwareAlternatively, some countries have opted for fiscal tracking software, taking away need for a fiscal memory module from the hardware and has opted for third party software to work in conjunction with the POS printer and terminal. These types of software record every transaction and create a fiscal log which is stored in the cloud but can also provide a physical receipt. This specialised software allows instant access to transactions while being used with general POS hardware reducing additional costs for updating an entire estate. RFID Labelling for Libraries

    August 24, 2021

Used in libraries for decades, electromagnetic (EM) technology and radio frequency (RF) have provided libraries theft detection. As the library industry evolves to meet user trends and a post pandemic world, radio frequency identification (RFID) technology provides libraries with an innovative solution for improving traditional library practices and processes. Why use RFID labels in libraries? RFID solutions can prevent human error and increase efficiency. RFID labels are applied to library materials and programmed with identification and security information. Compared to a barcode, the labels can be read remotely (such as a circulation desk or staff station) to identify items or to detect the status on materials. With the use of RFID readers, library staff can read multiple items at the same time, whether it’s through a cover or at staff stations speeding up the amount of time to find, process, and inventory items throughout the library. Ultimately increasing the productivity of staff, RFID labels improve several of the day-to-day functions in libraries including: · Identification Identification of book details; stack number, accession number, book number, author information, etc. · Check-in Desk Management of borrowing and returning · Check-in Kiosk Fast scanning the books information · Book Drop Station Return books any time 24 x 7 · Shelf Management Stock Verification: Easy and quick verify the more the 100,000 books per day Searching a book: Location of books to facilitate the search and placement · Security Gate Prevention and detection for the unauthorized removal of library assets BIXOLON’s RFID Printers BIXOLON's RFID printers provide fast and reliable performance when printing and encoding RFID labels. The Challenge: Reliable and Transparent e-Voting Solutions

    November 6, 2020

A growing number of organizations in some democratic countries have introduced electronic voting systems with the aim of improving various aspects of the conventional voting process. E-Voting ensures faster vote count and tabulation alongside extremely accurate results, while reducing the chance for human error. Furthermore, it requires only the amount of ballot paper to be consumed for those who actually attend voting so the costs could be saved. On the other hand, security issues have always been conjunct with the e-Voting due to the lurking threats of fraud. The concerns over paperless elections have particularly intensified since it was revealed that the US voter registration database and public election sites had been targeted by hackers. Experts have laid great emphasis on a traceable e-Voting system combined with physically printed vote records that enables stringent audits. In which case, the voting machine prints a paper trail with protected voter’s identity after a voter selects a candidate by digital means. The collected paper trails remain as physical evidence to prove that electronic vote is correctly counted without manipulation. BIXOLON’s SRP-Q300 Series, 3-inch cube type receipt printers are suitable to be integrated into this type of voting machine due to its compact size and simple design. Fast printing speed up to 220 mm/sec shortens the voters’ queuing time and the high print resolution ensures the accuracy of the ballot count. The reliable Thermal Print Head makes for the perfect solution to handle large volumes of ballot printing all day long, and the Auto Cutter reduces chance to reprint crumpled ballots causing delays. The SRP-Q300 Series delivers Direct Thermal printing operation without the need to replace toner or ink cartridges to print ballots and, they can be easily connected to the host system through a variety of interfaces including USB, Serial, Dual-band WLAN (2.4GHz and 5GHz) and Bluetooth 5.0 (MFi certified). In some places where power supply is not stable, smaller stand-alone voting machines are used for e-Voting. The SRP-Q300B with a built-in battery ensures longer than 18 hours of standalone operations which is ideal for integration in this application. Paired with mobile devices, BIXOLON’s printing solutions could also offer support to the electronic pollbook to streamline the voter check-in process. The SRP-Q300B and SPP-R200ll (2-inch), SPP-R310 (3-inch) mobile receipt printers have widely been deployed for this use in North America. The e-pollbook is a portable all-in-one connected case combining a laptop or tablet, printer, and normal data capture devices such as a card reader or signature pad. It simplifies the voter check-in experience, as well as supports *Same Day Registration by offering a fast and smooth process for elections with a high turnout eliminating the need to scroll through hundreds of names in the traditional paper pollbook to mark voters’ signature near their name. The name is simply searched and eligibility is verified through the e-pollbook system, a ballot with appropriate style is automatically matched and printed from the printer on demand. This solution speeds up the whole process and saves voters’ waiting time while eliminating risks of marking a signature on the wrong line of name. BIXOLON provides an impressive line-up of Receipt, Mobile and Label printers with a wealth of customer support, which could improve security, reliability and efficiency of e-Voting. To learn more about the solutions, please visit www.BIXOLON.com or speak to your local representative. *Same Day Registration (SDR) have been enacted in a total of 21 states plus the District of Columbia in U.S. as of 2020 to allow any qualified resident of the state to register to vote and cast a ballot all in that day. Flawless Mobile Specimen Collection at Drive-through COVID-19 Test Centres

    September 21, 2020

As of September 2020, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) continues to spread despite months of persistent effort, involving 184 countries with more than 29.7million confirmed cases. While people around the world have been finding it hard to adapt to the New Normal, large-scale testing for the virus is considered to be of critical importance to identify cases as early as possible and conduct prompt contact tracing. In order to maximise testing capacity, a number of healthcare organizations have seen the advantages of drive-through testing such as the prevention of cross-infection between patients in a waiting space, the speed of administering tests and reduced staffing requirements. The steps in specimen collection at the drive-through test centres consist of registration, examination, specimen collection, and instructions. The samples collected at the site are identified with handwritten or printed labels including patients’ information and the time of collection for accurate testing at a clinical lab. Some countries where pre-registration is available, labels for specimens are prepared in advance to reduce the distance staff need to walk back and forth. Whereas in countries visitors will be seen without a pre-registration, where time is required to access identification and printing sample labels from a stationary kiosk. Labelling specimens far away from the point of collection would also increase the risk for errors. Equipping front-line workers with rugged mobile printing solutions enables the smooth running of the test site. Clinical staff scan a patient's ID using a mobile computer at a distance, and sends the data to the national hospital system to create an account. A specimen label can be instantly printed using the data and a mobile label printer. BIXOLON’s mobile printers are optimised for this application to enable optimum DT centres to functionality. Staff can save time reducing idle walking time between the car and the station to print a label, enabling workflow to be streamlined and the testing process is expedited. This will facilitate more tests for symptomatic patients and significantly elevate capacity of each centre per day. Labels instantly printed by the car can also help prevent mis-identification. Featuring the SPP-L3000 a premium mobile label printer,Fully rugged form factor enduring multiple drops from 2.1 m / 7 ftIP54 rate sealed to withstand water, dust and extreme weather conditions Perfect compatibility with major operating systems including Android™, iOS™ and Windows®Fast data processing and print speed of up to 5 ips (127 mm/sec)Longest battery runtimes with 2600 mAh capacity Reliable wireless capability simultaneously connecting both Bluetooth and WLANEasy to use with LCD and ergonomic design Put BIXOLON’s industry leading mobile technology in the hands of front-line workers to increase productivity and create a safer working environment in DT centres. Energy Efficiency Labelling Regulations

    July 1, 2019

The European Commission has recently adopted new formats of Energy Efficiency Labelling for several product groups. As part of the European Union’s energy saving objectives and to provide clearer, simpler information to consumers, the new formats will provide a QR code link that consumers can scan to obtain additional product information. This official, non-commercial information will be entered by manufacturers into the associated European Product Database for Energy Labelling (EPREL), which will become available for consumers to view through the latter months of 2019. As of January 2019, manufacturers, importers and authorised representatives of certain appliances need to register their goods and provide the additional consumer information before selling them on the European market. Some legacy goods will also need to have their energy labelling amended and additional information added to the EPREL database if placed on the market from the 1st August 2017 and the 31st December 2018. Now whilst the EPREL database is an EU managed initiative there are obvious implications for goods manufactured outside of the EU where the EU is the intended recipient region of sale. It is fortunate then that BIXOLON has a global sales and support team, plus a network of UNITE partners that can meet all your printing needs.
